News& Thoughts& Independent Christian Churches& Church of Christ30 Aug 2005 07:38 pm

Hello All:

As I’m sure many of you have seen, Hurricane Katrina has ravaged the Gulf Coast and left thousands of people homeless.

There are many individuals and families that could use our prayers at the moment, and much much more.

If you have the means and are interested in contributing towards disaster relief, there is a church of Christ sponsored disaster relief agency that is taking donations. You can contact them online at Church of Christ Disaster Relief Effort. Disaster Relief Effort has been operating since 1990 and has a solid history of providing disaster support. They are currently loading a Semi full of clothes, food and children’s supplies to give out to those affected.

Also, International Disaster Emergency Services is affiliated with the instrumental churches and they provide they same type of services.

If you have the means to help, I highly encourage you to do so. Your gift will not only help provide for the spiritual needs of those affected in this disaster, but it may also help open the door for many of these people to be brought to Christ.

What I’m currently reading:

Christians and College - The Daily Citizen, Searcy Arkansas.

This is an interesting article on Harding and where its new VP of Spiritual Life wants to go. This is the same man, Bruce McLarty, that I wrote about the other day and who is being ridiculed by those who want a more liberal person in charge of the Bible Department at Harding.

I don’t know Harding well enough to know if being the head of the Bible Department makes you the VP of Spiritual Life, but it sounds like the VP wants Harding to go in a direction that will strengthen the school and the students that attend there.

There will be more to come about this, I’m sure.

Hello all:

Finally, since I have fixed how comments are handled, we actually have comments here.

I knew quite a few people were reading the page from my server stats, but its always nice to see people respond. It makes it “feel more real.”

So thank you to the few of you that have posted. While I expect that much of the response to many of my posts may be negative, that’s quite alright. While I may disagree my more liberal brothers and sisters who read this blog and might comment, I believe that we all have a place here, and some dialogue is a good thing.

Also, we now have 142 separate links on the website. If you have a link that is related, please email us at clarke@clarkecomments.com or leave it in a comment.
